Question by : Dental insurance “waiting periods”?
I am very upset. I just got a bill from my dentist in the mail claiming my wisdom teeth extraction because of “waiting period”.
I had previously contacted a dentist in town (I am new to this town) and they told me my dentist would reimburse me if I had a procedure done. I later found out they weren’t in my network, so I cancelled the appointment. But the point is they TOLD me. I don’t understand why my current dentist didn’t tell me this if it was a possibility.
I cannot afford to pay $ 1100 on top of the $ 900 I just paid for what insurance wouldn’t “cover”.
Someone please tell me what is going on.
I am still young and relatively new to my own insurance. I asked my current dentists worker lady if there would be any issues with having to wait and they told me no, that all I would have to pay is $ 900.
If you are going to be a dick please don’t respond to my question. This is why I hardly use Yahoo answers anymore.
Please!
All I asked for was a simple explanation of waiting periods. I have asked several other people in my “real life” and even they don’t realize what they are. I had checked my book for my coverage and it said it was effective after 181 days. THAT is where the confusion lies.
I don’t even know why I bothered coming to Yahoo answers. Every single time I ask any question on here I have to be on the defense because, generally, people are very rude on here. You can all get a life and continue your “top contributing” behind your little computer screens. None of you are getting top answer and when people ask for help don’t treat them like idiots. We all live and learn and make mistakes and you don’t have to talk down to anyone. I doubt you would speak like a sarcastic jerk to anyone in real life.

Your dentist is not responsible to know and inform you of coverage you carry, and whether or not it will cover the services rendered. That is YOUR job to do. Why did you not contact your insurance provider to determine if coverage was in place ? Or do you expect dentists to know the intricate details and waiting periods for each and every patient. Please !
